The illustration academy - Week 1

I've treated myself with a nice candy: I'm currently doing a 4 weeks program at the Illustration Academy in Kansas City! So I get to hang out with Mark and John English, Brent Watkinson and John Foster (who stayed only for last week, new illustrators will arrived today to take his place).
Je me suis payée la traite : Je suis présentement à Kansas City pour une formation de 4 semaines à 'Illustration Academy'! J'ai le privilège de côtoyer Mark et John English, Brent Watkinson, et John Foster (l'illustrateur invité de la semaine, deux nouvelles personnes arriveront au courant de la journée et passerons à leur tour une semaine avec nous)

Here is a picture of the studio where I'm passing more then 12 hours each day. It's very inspiring!
Voici une photo de mon environnement de travail où je passe plus de 12 heures par jour. C'est un endroit vraiment inspirant!


It's in a industrial area. So not much happening around here, but we have a lovely lady who's giving us ride to go in town when even we need to.
L'établissement se situe dans un secteur industriel, et il n'y a pas grand chose dans les environs... Mais nous avons notre 'chauffeure' qui nous amène en ville lorsque nous en avons besoin.


So the first week is already over, and I thought I could share the result of my hard work with you. The topic of the week was: shapes and values and working from references. So here is the various stages of my cut paper piece.
La première semaine est déjà terminée, et j'ai pensé partager avec vous le résultat de mon dur travail. Le sujet de la semaine: les formes et valeurs ainsi que travailler à partir de références. Voici donc les différentes étapes de mon projet

So you have the reference, the study of the shapes and value, a computer version of the shapes and values (easier to play with), the computer color study and the final version in painted cut paper (I got such a hard time to get my color to match the one on the computer...) And now, my thumb is so sore from all that cutting... I don't want to touch a pair of cisor for at least 6 months!!!
Donc pour commencer: la référence, l'étude de forme et valeur, une version faite à l'ordi (c'est plus facile pour jouer avec les valeurs), l'étude de couleur and le produit final fait de papier coupé et peinturé.

I'll get a new post next monday about this week project! I'm looking forward to it!
